Have you ever thought about what legacy you’ll leave behind when you die? Or if you could orchestrate the specifics of exactly how you will be remembered?

In the upcoming film The Last Word, retired businesswoman and notorious control freak Harriet (Shirley MacLaine) decides she wants to oversee the writing of her obituary before she dies. Enter local newspaper obituary writer Anne Sherman (Amanda Seyfried), who is assigned by her editor to grant Harriet’s request. As you will see in the exclusive first look at the trailer above, the two women get more out of their assigned relationship than they planned.

In the trailer, Harriet tells Anne that she wants her obituary to mention how “the deceased has touched someone’s life,” but when interviewing Harriet’s acquaintances to find one such person, Anne realizes that Harriet’s controlling ways have left mostly negative impressions on people.

Upon receiving this news, Harriet sets out to find someone on whom she can make a positive impact before she dies. “We have to find a youth to mold and that person will be the life I touch,” she says, which introduces a plucky youngster who becomes Harriet’s de facto sidekick and her “intern” at a local radio station where Harriet becomes a DJ. The film also stars Seyfried’s fiancé, Thomas Sadoski, whom we get brief glimpses of in the trailer as Harriet’s boss at the radio station.

Seyfried, 30, and Sadoski, 40, first met while working together on the off-Broadway show The Way We Get By last year, but didn’t begin dating until they were reunited while filming The Last Word. The couple are expecting their first child together.

Directed by Mark Pellington, The Last Word will premiere at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, and hits theaters March 3.

Get ready for a buddy dramedy that will feature two famous leading ladies instead of leading men. Silver screen legend Shirley MacLaine and the ever versatile Amanda Seyfried will star in The Last Word.

The Last Word will see one controlling woman (MacLaine) who wants to have a say in how the world sees her when she dies – she wants to writer her own obituary before she goes. To do so, she’s teamed up with a writer (Seyfried) at the local paper tasked with helping her. When the writer wants the full story though, the two wind up on a journey through the older woman’s life.

To be frank, the story actually sounds a little similar to a romantic comedy Seyfried starred in a few years ago titled Letters to Juliet, in which she ended up chasing down the story of a woman who left a love letter at Juliet’s wall in Italy. Though that film focused on the romance of it all, The Last Word will focus on the independent women instead. Mark Pellington, who will direct the film, said:

This is a funny, heartwarming and emotionally tender tale of life. It explores the true source of power for independent women, and is a riotous life affirming film about the lessons learned through time and the generational gifts that are bestowed.

Seyfried, who was just seen in Ted 2, can next be caught in Pan, in theaters in October. She’s also got Young Americans and Flying Horse to film over the next year. Likewise, MacLaine has Jim Button and Men of Granite up next, so it’s likely that we won’t see The Last Word head into production until some time in 2016.

Amanda Seyfried has joined the cast of “Young Americans,” which stars Daniel Radcliffe as Lee Atwater and Dane Dehaan as Karl Rove, TheWrap reports.

Seyfried’s casting comes with the news announced that StarStream Media will finance and produce the road-trip buddy movie directed by John Krokidas (“Kill Your Darlings”) and written by Wes Jones.

Based on true events from the 1970s, “Young Americans” follows Atwater and Rove on a wild road trip through the South all the way to the White House in a crash course of dirty tricks and politics. Seyfried joins the party as a young political femme fatale who secretly threatens to beat the boys at their own game.

Bruce Cohen (“Silver Linings Playbook”) and Liz Destro (“Life After Beth”) of Destro Films are producing alongside Kim Leadford of StarStream Media and Frank Frattaroli of Circle of Confusion. XYZ Films is handling international sales rights at the upcoming Marche du Film at Cannes.

Principal photography is set to begin this fall.

Seyfried most recently starred alongside Ben Stiller, Naomi Watts and Adam Driver in Noah Baumbach’s “While We’re Young,” and will be seen in “Ted 2” this summer.

“Everybody at StarStream Media and Destro Films are excited to finally be making this movie. We have been trying to get this script since it won the Black List in 2010 and thanks to the incredible team who kept this film alive (Bruce Cohen, Rena Ronson, Wes Jones and John Krokidas), we have the pleasure of working with Krokidas and DP, Reed Morano,” said Kim Leadford, CEO of StarStream Media. “We loved their 1940s aesthetic in ‘Kill Your Darlings’ and are looking forward to watching them build the look of the 70s; which is one of the coolest eras, in my opinion.”

UTA Independent packaged the film and will be representing North America.

The bright side to the weather-walloping that Pittsburgh has taken this winter: It’s going to make for one heck of a holiday movie.

The frigid, snow-covered city serves as the idyllic Christmas Eve setting for Love the Coopers, still shooting on location, but heading to theaters Nov. 13.

The dramatic comedy was originally titled Let it Snow, and Mother Nature definitely heard that plea.

“We do snow dances instead of rain dances on set,” says director Jessie Nelson (I Am Sam), who began shooting on location in late January. Since then, the city has seen near-record low temperatures and more than three feet of snow. “It’s cold but beautiful. We are so lucky with the weather, it’s just been a winter wonderland.”

Nelson says the title change to Love the Coopers, which is how the featured family signs their Christmas cards, was needed to give the movie a more year-round viewing appeal.

But it takes place around an emotionally packed Christmas Eve dinner for the sprawling ensemble cast. John Goodman and Diane Keaton portray the hosts, Charlotte and Sam Cooper, a couple married for 40 years with many family branches.

“It’s one day in everyone’s lives,” says Nelson. “We pick each one up in the morning and we follow them until they get to the dinner at 5 p.m., and then we show what happens when they all collide at the house.”

Ed Helms and Olivia Wilde portray the couple’s single, grown children. Helms’ Hank is divorced and Wilde’s Eleanor invites a soldier (Jake Lacy) she met at the airport to dinner.

Alan Arkin, as Keaton’s father, dines each morning at a restaurant where he encounters a waitress played by Amanda Seyfried. June Squibb portrays Goodman’s elderly, kooky Aunt Fishy.

With production set to begin in a few days, Warner Bros.’ Peter Pan adaptation has added Amanda Seyfried to the cast.

The film reunites Seyfried, who will play Mary, with her Les Miserables co-star Hugh Jackman, who is starring in the film as Blackbeard.

Directed by Joe Wright from a script by Jason Fuchs, Warner Bros.’ adaption will offer a new take on the origin of the classic characters created by J.M. Barrie. The film will follow an orphan boy who is spirited away to the magical Neverland, where he discovers both adventure and danger. Filming will begin on April 28 at the Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in England.

Garrett Hedlund will star as Hook, while Rooney Mara will play Tiger Lily. Adeel Akhtar takes on the role of Smee and newcomer Levi Miller will play the young Peter.
